About Page Allen

Page Allen was born in 1951 in St. Charles, Illinois. She studied liberal arts and visual art in the first class of women at Princeton University, then entered the opening class of Hampshire College, graduating in 1974. She received her M.A. in Visual Arts from Northern Illinois University in 1980.

 

She has lived and shown her work in New York, Chicago, Montana and in New Mexico since 1985. She was an Artist in Education for Montana, and taught at Highlands University in New Mexico as well as The Elgin Academy in Illinois.

 

Allen’s paintings are included in museum and private collections throughout the country, featured in Sharyn Udall’s Contested Terrain, Donald Hagerty’s Leading the West, Susan Ressler’s Women Artists of the American West and Douglas Bullis’ 100 Artists on the Southwest.

 

Since painting and writing her first book, Madison’s Descent, Allen worked in collaboration with several theater artists on the stage adaptation of the story. The project received two grants for puppetry from The Henson Foundation and premiered in May of 2006 at the Kasser Theater, Montclair State University, NJ, as Madison’s Descent, A Masque, with chorale, solo voice and instrumental composition by Micheal O Suilleabhain of The Irish World Music Centre, Limerick; choreography by David Bolger of Cois Ceim, Dublin;  production design by Michael Curry Design and projection/animation by Misha Films.

 

Allen has received several working residencies at The Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig in Ireland, The Cill Rialaig Foundation and at Glenstal Abbey, where she continued the painting and writing of her books.

 

The series of unique painted and written books for all ages is titled The Passageway Books.

The Way to Davis describes a boy’s mythic journey to his birth, published in 2007 by Otis & Randolph Press. Riverpath Home, is the third book, unpublished, The Longing Star, the fourth, The Stag at Midnight, the fifth.

Allen and is at work on her sixth, The Daughter Star .
