Right there in front of him was a bear! He blocked the way, like a huge gate that was firmly shut. Solid and foursquare the bear stood like pillars planted in the torrent.

The Pelagic Turtle understood. He had once left the nest and remembered how long the first crawl was. “Let’s be on our way,” he said to Davis now. “Or should I say, your way. Row, row with me!”

The Snow Fox was about to patter past on her night business when Davis said, “I’m cold.”

“Oh,” said the Fox, “I didn’t see you there, floating like a little ice berg. Well, what can we do
for you?”

Then My Moon set a candle in the Night Nursery. “Wake up!” she said. All the babies stared at the new light with round eyes.

Sometime after the night began, came the first sound. A cheerful sound, a trickle and splash, it was water running.

“Sometimes, before you go to sleep at night, you might wonder where you came from before you were here. And you might wonder, ‘How far does the night go past the stars?’ or, ‘If I keep going straight, will I ever get home again?’

“These same questions were wondered once by a little boy, when he was just beginning. This is his answer, as much of an answer as may be. It tells of how the night began and the long trip from night to day and how, just once, the way to home was straight.”

So begins The Way to Davis, exploring the mystery and wonder of birth. With richly painted images and poetic text,  it describes a night world filled with potential and magic as baby Davis journeys down the Great River of Stars on his way to be born. His story is an adventure through an enchanted world of animals and celestial forms, each one with a lesson or a gift for him. The Way to Davis issues a compelling invitation to see, really see, who we are, where we are and to treasure the miracle of life.

Written and illustrated by Santa Fe artist, Page Allen. The Way to Davis is a companion book to Madison's Descent, both beautifully illustrated and poetic stories that describe the magical journey towards life.

Available in hardcover, extraordinary production value, a classic.

"It is a book to be cherished and treasured, as a work of art, but also a meaningful guide on the journey towards life, and how all things are connected. It also has a lightness of touch, and joy to it, that all children will adore, as it feeds their curiosity and imagination." --Amazon Review
